Abstract

Orsi Group srl is an Italian company, with 35 employees, that has been operating in the Agricultural sector services for over 10 years (established in 1990), specialising in the manufacturing of hydraulic hedge trimmers applied to tractors, trucks, loaders, excavators and mechanical shredders, also able to work in severe conditions.

Exports account for 65% of the company global turnover. In general, besides the traditional European markets, the company is now looking to expand to overseas markets.

The Company produces machines for the maintenance of private and public green spaces. These machines are suitable to cut grass, wood in parks, gardens and along the roads and the highways.

Orsi company, having a strong expertise in mechanical field, can surely be considered a First User, since so far we had never undertook directly the study, development and manufacturing of any electronic system and equipment to be applied on the company's hydraulic hedge trimmers.

Main object of AE is to increase the technological level of the product, differentiating it from that of current competitors. This resulted in a simplification of the operator's job and in an improvement in the quality of the work. The realised device will enable the operator to avoid any obstacle on the ground by acting on a single control, increasing quality of work and accuracy of cut.

The target of the AE was to set up an innovated hedge trimmer arm with the introduction of electronic control, in order to acquire expertise in the chosen microcontroller technology.

The microcontroller controls automatically the inclination angle of trimmer head.

The rationale of AE was to consolidate the market share widening our product range with a very sophisticated machine, thus better satisfying the customer needs.

For the development of its products the company has always used its expertise on the mechanical-hydraulic field focusing on the optimization of the product and has never concretely ventured on the electronics sector mainly due to the lack of knowledge in this field.

The Application Experiment is actually finished after 10 months of work and the AE actual cost was 49 Keur.

The pay back period is 21 months and the ROI is 261,7%
